Obsidian is free for local use and requires no account. An account is only for optional services such as Obsidian Sync or Publish. Skip those until the local Business Brain is working.
Part one · Set up Obsidian
Go here. Click this. Check that.
These are current, privacy-safe screenshots from a disposable copy of this exact Business Brain. Your operating system may use a lighter color theme, but the names and actions are the same.
1
Download and install Obsidian
1.Go only to obsidian.md/download. The large button should name your computer.
2.Mac: open the .dmg, drag Obsidian into Applications, then open Obsidian from Applications.
3.Windows: download the Universal installer, open it, let it finish, then open Obsidian from Start.
4.Do not create an account. The free local setup does not require one.
Check yourself: you see a normal Business-Brain folder, not only a ZIP file.
3
Open Business-Brain as the vault
1.First launch: beside “Open folder as vault,” click Open.
2.If another vault opens: click its name in the bottom-left, choose Manage vaults, then click Open beside “Open folder as vault.”
3.Choose the Business-Brain folder itself—not the ZIP, its parent folder, or one .md file.
4.Confirm that the top bar says Business-Brain, then click Open in the bottom-right.
Check yourself: the top bar says Business-Brain and the list includes 03-Meetings and START-HERE.md.
4
Confirm success and open START-HERE
1.The left sidebar should show folders numbered 00 through 08.
2.Click START-HERE in that sidebar.
3.Open 03-Meetings → meeting-note once, then return to START-HERE.
4.If those notes open and the folders stay visible, setup is complete.
Check yourself: Finish line: the Business Brain folders are on the left and START-HERE is open. Leave plugins and Sync off for your first five notes.
The only five terms you need
Vault
A normal folder on your computer that Obsidian opens.
Note
A plain-text file ending in .md.
Markdown
Simple formatting such as headings and bullets.
Template
A reusable blank note that tells you what to capture.
Link
A connection from one note to another inside the vault.
Obsidian organizes files. It does not transcribe recordings for you.
Part two · Process one call
Turn one recording into useful memory.
1
Pick one recent call
Choose one sales call, coaching call, client call, work session, or presentation whose outcome you still remember. Do not bulk-import the library.
2
Keep the source and useful note separate
Leave the original recording in its authorized private location. Put its transcript and one verified useful note in 03-Meetings.
3
Verify before you repeat
Check decisions, commitments, owners, dates, numbers, and quotes against the transcript—and the retained recording when the detail matters. Mark uncertainty NEEDS REVIEW.
Keep the literal call checklist beside you
The full guide includes filenames, transcript format, confidentiality guardrails, verification checks, and a bounded AI extraction prompt.
